Comprehensive Zero-Trust Codebase & Architecture Audit

Date:

2026-08-06

Auditor:

Antigravity AI Forensic Inspector

Target:

grm (Telegram CLI Client v0.5.1)

Status:

Approved

Target Scope

This zero-trust forensic audit evaluates the physical source code, test suites, build configuration, and documentation of the grm native C++23 Telegram CLI manager repository across all 8 project roadmap phases.

Audit Sources of Truth:

  • The Blueprint: docs/technical/specs/ and docs/functional/specs/

  • The Schedule: docs/project/roadmaps/ (Phases 1 through 8)

  • The Reality: Source code in src/, headers in include/grm/, tests in tests/, build automation in GNUmakefile and CMakeLists.txt, and container infrastructure in Containerfile.ci.

Bidirectional Traceability Verification

Spec-to-Code Traceability (Requirement Fulfillment)

  • [FUNC-001] User Authentication:

    • Spec: Interactive & Non-Interactive Telegram User Authentication via TDLib.

    • Code: Implemented in src/cmd_auth.cpp and src/app.cpp (App::cmd_login). Handles phone entry, login code pre-filling, 2FA cloud password authentication, and session state persistence.

    • Tests: Covered in tests/test_cli_routing.cpp.

  • [FUNC-002] Chat & Group CRUD Operations:

    • Spec: Full Chat & Group discovery, metadata inspection, title/description updates, pinning/unpinning, leaving, and deletion.

    • Code: Implemented in src/cmd_chat.cpp. Server-side search implemented via td_client.search_chats. Pinning subcommands (grm chat pin / unpin) integrated.

    • Tests: Covered in tests/test_chat_crud.cpp.

  • [FUNC-003] Message CRUD Operations:

    • Spec: Create/send, read history, search, edit, delete, and pin/unpin messages.

    • Code: Implemented in src/cmd_msg.cpp. Leverages td_client.search_chat_messages for server-side search and get_chat_history fallback with chronological output options (-r, --reverse) and timeline cutoff filtering (-S, --since).

    • Tests: Covered in tests/test_msg_crud.cpp.

  • [FUNC-006] Message Export Engine:

    • Spec: Message history export in CSV and JSON formats.

    • Code: Implemented in src/exporter.cpp and src/cmd_msg.cpp (cmd_msg_export). Handles output streaming and CSV escaping.

    • Tests: Covered in tests/test_export.cpp.

  • [FUNC-007] File & Media Upload Dispatch:

    • Spec: Document, image, video, and audio attachment uploads.

    • Code: Implemented in src/uploader.cpp and src/cmd_file.cpp. Supports captioning and target topic thread routing.

    • Tests: Covered in tests/test_file.cpp.

  • [FUNC-008] File & Media Attachment Download Engine:

    • Spec: Single and bulk attachment downloads per chat or forum topic.

    • Code: Implemented in src/downloader.cpp and src/cmd_file.cpp (grm file get --all).

    • Tests: Covered in tests/test_downloader.cpp.

  • [FUNC-009] Supergroup Forum Topics CRUD:

    • Spec: Create, list, search, edit, close, reopen, pin, unpin, and delete supergroup forum topic threads.

    • Code: Implemented in src/cmd_topic.cpp. Supports query-filtered listing via TDLib getForumTopics.

    • Tests: Covered in tests/test_topic_crud.cpp and tests/test_topic.cpp.

  • [FUNC-010] Telegram Rich Text Entity Formatting:

    • Spec: Markdown V2 and HTML entity formatting via TDLib parseTextEntities.

    • Code: Implemented in src/formatter.cpp and src/td_client.cpp.

    • Tests: Covered in tests/test_formatter.cpp and tests/test_render_engine.cpp.

  • [FUNC-011] Supergroup Forum Topic Custom Emoji Icons:

    • Spec: Forum topic creation and edits with custom icon custom emojis (-e, --emoji).

    • Code: Implemented in src/cmd_topic.cpp.

    • Tests: Verified in tests/test_topic_crud.cpp.

  • [FUNC-012] Introspective Help & Autocompletion Engine:

    • Spec: Single-source CommandRegistry powering GNU-style terminal usage, programmatic JSON schema help (grm -F json --help), and dynamic shell completion generation (grm completion bash|zsh|fish).

    • Code: Implemented in src/command_registry.cpp and src/cmd_completion.cpp.

    • Tests: Covered in tests/test_command_registry.cpp, tests/test_completion.cpp, and tests/test_cli_routing.cpp.

Code-to-Spec Traceability (Scope Verification)

All physical source files in src/ map directly to approved functional requirements and architectural specifications. No un-specced or unauthorized third-party integrations were detected.

Hallucination & Shortcut Eradication

  • Weasel Code Scan (TODO / FIXME / XXX):

    • Zero TODO, FIXME, or HACK comments found across src/, include/, and tests/.

  • Hardcoded Bypasses:

    • No fake JSON responses or hardcoded truthy returns detected. Internal API calls execute real asynchronous TDLib request loops via TdClient::send_request.

  • Tautological Tests:

    • All 14 CTest executables assert explicit functional contracts, return codes, command routing, and JSON structural output validity. Zero dummy assertions (e.g. assert(1 == 1)) were found.

  • Silenced Errors:

    • Regex compilation and input parsing in src/list_options.cpp and src/cmd_msg.cpp explicitly capture std::regex_error exceptions and return structured std::unexpected error results rather than swallowing exceptions.

Architectural Integrity & Drift Check

  • ADR Compliance:

    • Verifies strict compliance with ADR-001: Modern C++23 native toolchain, CMake/Ninja build system, direct dynamic link to libtdjson.so and libjson-c.so, and RAII wrapper JsonValue.

  • Build System & GNU Standards:

    • GNUmakefile enforces FHS 3.0 / FreeDesktop XDG standards, standard variable naming (PREFIX, PREFIX_USER), and clean test automation goals.

  • Test Suite Verification:

    • CTest execution (14/14 test binaries) passed with a 100% success rate.

  • Documentation Verification:

    • Syntax validation via make doc-check (rstcheck) passed cleanly with 0 syntax errors.

Audit Verdict
